A 103-year-old man jumped out of a window to escape a fire that broke out in his room at a convalescent home in northern Germany on Sunday.
“The blaze broke out shortly after midnight, and he jumped from his window to escape the flames,’’ a police spokesman said.
The man survived the fall with severe injuries and was taken to the hospital.
It was unclear whether the injuries he sustained came from the fire or from his escape.
The police spokesman could not say how far the senior fell out of the window.
Around 30 other residents of the nursing home in the northern city of Luebeck were forced to leave.
However, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire.
