107-year-old woman recovers from COVID-19 in Saudi Arabia

A 107-year-old Saudi woman has recovered from coronavirus, COVID-19, after treatment in a Jeddah hospital.

According to the executive director of East Jeddah Hospital, Dr. Khaled Al-Ghamdi, the woman, name withheld, had severe respiratory problems.

He recalled that the woman was transferred to the emergency department where she was examined by a medical team, headed by Dr. Ruba Hindi, internal medicine consultant, and Dr. Badour Al-Otaibi, internal medicine specialist.

He said: “She was found to be infected with the novel coronavirus and that resulted in severe pneumonia and acute respiratory syndrome.

“This necessitated placing her on a ventilator within 4 days after her hospitalization.

“She was later transferred to the intensive care unit where she was given necessary treatment for the infection in line with the treatment protocols from the Ministry of Health.

“Within a week of hospitalization, the woman’s health began to improve and subsequently the ventilator was removed.”

Mr Al-Ghamdi noted that the elderly woman was discharged from the hospital after complete recovery.
