The Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Olatunji Disu, has revealed that 140 policemen died while on active duty in 2024.

He said the policemen died as a result of high blood pressure, violent protests, and other ailments.

Mr Disu, who disclosed this during an interview with Daily Trust, added that some of the policemen died while sleeping and others slumped and passed away at work.

He disclosed that a significant number of the deceased officer’s family received their entitlements and other perks, as ordered by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun.

“In fact, just today, this morning, we lost one of our officers who went to bed and didn’t wake up again.

“So you can see how some of our men died while on active service for our dear nation,” he said.

The police, however, expressed the command’s determination to build on the success recorded in 2024 through public enlightenment initiatives to address evolving security demands of the FCT.
