A brace from striker Shalom Alaka gave Casmat Academy a commanding 3-0 victory over Camp United in the 2019 FCT FA Cup on Tuesday.
The game against FCT League side Camp United, played at the Area 3 football pitch in Abuja, saw Alaka open scoring with a 25-yard strike.
It came after the striker had dribbled past two defenders in the 34th minute.
Alaka doubled their lead four minutes later when he got on the end of a sublime cross from the right.
He cleverly chipped the ball over the head of an unrushing Camp United goalkeeper.
Clement Ketu sealed victory for Casmat Academy in the 75th minute from a rebound which fell kindly for him after Obodo Ndifreke’s shot came off the frame of the goal post.
Casmat Academy’s coach, Samuel Abimbola, later told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that his goal was to win the Cup in the club’s first outing in the competition.
“We are first-timers in this prestigious competition and intend to make it a memorable one for the club and our fans.
“We want to win the trophy and represent FCT at the national level.
“Indeed, teamwork is where our strength lies and that will be key to our chances of success in the cup this year,” he said.
Camp United FC manager, Monday Cornelius, meanwhile, felt his side could take great credit from their performance, in spite of the final result.
“We talked about trying to stay in the game in the second half, and creating more opportunities for ourselves, and that is what we did with a level of control.
“However, the third goal took the wind out of our sails,” he said.
NAN also reports that in the last match of the day, first half goals from Frank Joshua and Samuel Kalu helped Defence Strikers to beat FCT League side Dal FC 2-0.
Action in the 2019 FCT FA Cup competition continues on Wednesday with Catholic Cadet taking on Ejele Academy, while NYSC FC face Beautiful Tour FC.
The Cup competition is expected to climax with the final match on April 28, with the two finalists qualifying to represent FCT in the 2019 Aiteo Cup competition.
