The immediate past governor of Jigawa state, Sule Lamido, has declared that Atiku Abubakar can vie for presidency in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in 2019election.
Mr Abubakar, a former Nigerian Vice President, left the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC to PDP last month.
The former vice president felt that he was sidelined in the APC affairs after contributing immensely to its success in the 2015 elections.
But since returning to PDP, Mr Abubakar was facing criticisms by some members of the party on his intention to contest for 2019 presidential ticket.
However, speaking on BBC Hausa service on Wednesday, Mr Lamido said the door is open to everybody that wants to contest for presidency in PDP.
“It is not a problem if Atiku returns to PDP and wants to contest for presidency. The door is open for everybody that wants to contest. The power is in the hands of the electorates.
“We just want to exhibit a true democracy in our primary elections. Even the fact that I too, am vying for the position, I don’t see Atiku ‘s fault for expressing his desire to contest. He was not happy with APC and decided to return home, the PDP, so he is free to contest.
“We just want to cooperate to make this party greater in order to unseat APC in 2019,” Lamido said.
Mr Lamido, a former Minister of Foreign Affairs, also labelled APC as a deceitful party which failed to fulfill its campaigns promises to Nigerians.
He said, “This APC is full of deception. Look at how people are suffering. After Boko Haram, it is now “Yunwa Haram”. APC called PDP members thieves, but the party (APC) did not win elections until when the PDP members, who it formerly described as thieves joined. Therefore, we can say that APC is a daughter to the party of thieves,”
