President Muhammadu Buhari has signed a Peace Accord with other Presidential aspirants over the 2019 general elections.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the Accord, organized by the National Peace Committee headed by Ex-military general, Abdulsalam Abubakar, an undertaking by all the presidential candidates to ensure peaceful and rancour-free campaigns before, during and after the 2019 general elections.
The event was attended by President Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, as well as over 68 other presidential candidates.
Other dignitaries at the event included former Head of State, retired Gen. Yakubu Gowon, who presented a keynote address and Head of the European Union Delegation to Nigeria, Ambassador Ketil Karlsen.
However, the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar was noticeably absent at the meeting.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Paul Ibe, the Waziri of Adamawa said that he did not receive any invitation to be part of the event.
“I can confirm that Abubakar did not receive any formal invitation to the signing of the peace pact.”
