2019: Former Kano deputy governor declares for senatorial seat

Former Deputy Governor of Kano State and pioneer Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, Abdullahi Tijjani-Gwarzo has declared an intention to contest for the Kano North senatorial seat in the 2019 elections.

Mr Gwarzo made the declaration through a statement that was circulated to newsmen in Kano on Sunday.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the aspirant will challenge the incumbent, Barau I Jibrin, who has been on the seat since 2015.

The statement read in part: “Following wise consultations with my political associates, youth and women groups, students, opinion leaders and all stakeholders of APC in Kano north, I have decided to contest as senator representing the zone in the upper chamber of the National Assembly with a view to providing quality legislation and improve the living condition of the people in the area which are only attainable through proper and true representation.

“It has become necessary for all well-meaning politician to step in at this crucial time to work towards restoring the dignity of the electorates who are always deserted by elected money bag officials only to be remembered when elections approach.

“To this end, in the name of Allah, the Beneficent the merciful, I declare my intention to contest the senatorial dear of our zone to give my contribution towards ensuring that our people reap the dividends of democracy to the fullest.”
