A serving Commissioner of Agriculture in Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, has declared his intention to contest the Kano Central Senatorial District currently occupied by the Former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
Mr Gawuna, who made the declaration at his Gawuna ward, Nassarawa Local Government, on Thursday, said he was not afraid of Mr Kwankwaso, given his political antecedent and grassroot politicking.
According to him, his intention to come to his ward and make the declaration was because of his belief that every right thinking politician should respect the ward leadership of his party as a true democratic culture.
Mr Gawuna said that his type of politicking has made him a dogged fighter who is not afraid of anyone.
“My People know who Gawuna is. They know the kind of politics I play and they also know that fear of a contest is not part of my political life. We that, we are going out in full force to clinch the seat,” he said.
The Commissioner commended Governor Ganduje for having a confidence in him for allowing him to steer the affairs of one of the biggest Ministries in the state.
“Let me make it clear that the Governor is not in any way behind my contest. Although he is my boss but he doesn’t need to push me before I declare my intention as you know,” he said.
He added: “I am still a member of the Kano State Executive Council and I believe Governor Ganduje would not interfere with the primaries of the party. But what I know is that he has confidence in me and what I can do.”
Mr Gawuna explained that he is going to the Senate to be part of the new political down ushered in by the leadership of Adam Oshiomhole.
“I am going to the Senate to change the dwindling misfortune of the Senate as they are being perceived by many Nigerians as enemies of democracy. In fact, that challenge has been taken up by the able national chairman of our great party APC and we shall all join hands to achieved it,” he assured.
