President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to enjoy public support and acceptability, especially after his victorious outing at the recently concluded APC Presidential Congress on Saturday in Abuja.
Mr Buhari garnered over 14 million votes across the states and FCT to clinch the ruling party’s ticket for a second term in 2019 general elections.
The Broom Platform, a media support group of the All Progressives Congress, which is one of the support organisations, says it will undertake a media tour of the 36 states of the federation and Federal Capital Territory to showcase achievements of the president.
Tom Ohikere, National Coordinator of the platform and the Deputy National Chairman (North) APC support groups, announced this at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.
He said the tour would produce physical evidence to authenticate the developmental claims of the APC across the states of the federation.
He added that the tour was to ensure a comprehensive media appraisal and documentary of the laudable projects of President Buhari and APC governors.
Mr Ohikere added that it was also to complement APC on publicity, adding that the team would focus on achievements on infrastructure development, particularly in areas of housing, health, power, transportation, agriculture and education.
“We are going to show Nigerians the impact analysis of what the government has done and its policy of continuity.
“President Buhari has continued the completion of projects left and abandoned by successive governments and this is a landmark achievement,’’ he said.
Mr Ohikere stressed that the platform owed the APC a moral obligation to contribute its quota towards its electoral victory in 2019.
He maintained that the APC-led Federal Government had recorded tremendous successes in governance by investing huge finance resources in key sectors of the economy.
This, he added, must be commended and celebrated at this time of nation building, especially in view of the coming 2019 general elections.
While applauding the substantial development of the President Buhari-led administration, Ohikere raised concerns over public misinformation by opposition political parties.
This, he said, was particularly on the numerous achievements and milestones of the Federal Government.
“It is therefore, our observation that a lot still needs to be done in the areas of public awareness and citizens orientation on the “monumental achievements of our great party across the country”.
He called for the support of the media and Nigerians generally to enable the platform to succeed in its mission of giving the right information on projects and achievements of the APC-led administration to the public.
Mr Ohikere said the media tour, which would include both local and international media organisations, would provide an excellent opportunity for the media to ascertain the stages of infrastructure provided by the Federal Government.
According to him, pictorial facts collected during the tour, will be compiled in a publication to be circulated during the APC Presidential and governorship campaigns ahead of 2019 general elections.
He said the platform had planned to host the APC International Media Stakeholders Summit to address the media challenges inherent in the elections.
This, he said, was aimed at initiating capable platforms for combating fake news and hate speeches as well as mobilising media support.
“We promise to make this public project evaluation a very robust infrastructure impact benefits analysis of the APC administration.’’ he said.
He added that President Buhari would be the focus as the hub in the wheel of progress, adding that the platform would be open for public conversation and necessary debates.
