The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the list of defectors released by the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC in Kano as laughable, aimed at craving cheap publicity to remedy the party’s decreasing popularity in the state.

A statement by the Kano State PDP Publicity Secretary, Jamilu Dambatta on Thursday said a critical look at the list published by the APC has shown that not a single member of Kwankwasiyya has defected to the party.

He observed that many names were repeatedly published in the list out of desperation to create a political propaganda.

“Our attention has been drawn to an advertorial publication cited in page 33 of Daily Trust Newspaper, Thursday 22nd November 2018 edition, where Kano State Government through the Commissioner of Information and the APC claimed that some members of People’s Democratic Party have defected to the ruling party.

“To put the record clear, all defectors listed have been members of All Progressive Congress who might have possibly defected before Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and his massive followers staged a comeback into PDP, or those who accompanied former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau to APC when the latter felt intimidated by the strength of Kwankwaso and his Kwankwasiyya movement in the PDP,” he said.

The publicity secretary called on all members of PDP in Kano to dismiss the publication as “mere propaganda to gain cheap popularity by the APC, while our party is gaining momentum to take over Kano at all electable positions come 2019.”
