A first female senatorial aspirant for Kaduna North, Balkisu Zailani, popularly known as Shibah, has described her candidature as having what it takes to provide an effective representation for the people of Zone 1 in the National Assembly.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Shibah is vying for the seat Senator Sulaiman Hunkuyi is currently occupying in the Upper Legislative Chamber of the National Assembly.
Shibah, who stated this to select newsmen immediately after picking her Expression of Interest form at the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s headquarters in Abuja, said her intention to contest for the seat stemmed from her undying zeal to bring about positive change to her people.
“I have a lot of plans for the women, youths, elderly ones and even farmers. I am also ready to fight against rape and street hawking among children as well as drugs abuse which is killing us in the northern part of the country.
“I will empower women by making them be involved in businesses and discourage hawking among children. I will ensure that these children to go back to school.
“I have a lot of strategies that will help women because I’m also a woman, a mother and a sister. I know exactly how painful it is for a female to find herself in that situation. So, I have so much concern in that regard,” Shibah stressed.
The senatorial aspirant disclosed that her sojourn into politics started in 2011 when she contested for the House of Representatives under the platform of defunct CPC.
“I also contested for the same seat in 2015 under the platform of PDP. Besides that, I held several positions during Governor Ramalan Yero’s administration in Kaduna state.
“I was also part of the Goodluck Jonathan campaign organization during the 2015 general elections at the federal level,” she pointed out.
Speaking on her chances under the PDP, the aspirant said the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was dead in the state for having been “full of lies, death and no-motion stance.”
“I can count so many issues over again. You need to remember that whatever party Buhari joins or builds must definitely go down.
“Again, remember that almost all the members that formed the APC were from PDP and they are back to us now. So I don’t think there is going to be APC again in Kaduna state,” she noted.
Shibah, therefore, called on the people of Kaduna to get their PVCs, saying that it is their weapon for choosing the right persons come 2019.
