Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River says that only the constituents have the right to decide the re-election of members of the National Assembly, NASS, and not the state government.
He stated this while fielding questions from journalists in Calabar on Wednesday and said that the insinuation of being at loggerheads with some NASS members was false.
Otu said that he had been maintaining a close relationship with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and also the members of the NASS from the state.
He said that ‘’2027 is still far to be placed in the front burner,’’ but attributed the rumoured disaffection between him and the NASS, especially Sen. Bassey Asuquo (APC – Cross River) to social media creation.
‘’I don’t have any issue with anybody and my priority remains delivering the dividends of democracy to the people.
“I have no issue with any senator and I am not qualified to say who will be going back to the NASS or not.
“For me, your work will speak for you; their constituents will ultimately decide who will come back or not depending on how well they satisfy their people in terms of effective representation,” he stated.
The governor, who admitted pockets of issues after the recently concluded local government council elections in the state, however, said they were being resolved.
According to him, yes, we had some persons who were aggrieved over the emergence of candidates for the poll, but we have resolved and also still trying to sort out others.
“You will also agree with me that not everybody were expected to be satisfied with the conduct of the primaries for the election,” he said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
