The Divisional Police Officer of Vunokilang Police Division of Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State, CSP Okozie Okafor and 40 others are reportedly killed in attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
The clash occurred in the early hours of Sunday.
According to reports, the suspected Fulani herdsmen, believed to be on a revenge mission, raided four villages of Demsare, Wunamokoh, Dikajam and Taboungo.
Reports said the divisional police officer was ambushed when he was leading a team of policemen to the area.
The spokesman of the state police command, DSP Othman Abubakar, confirmed the death of the officer, saying Okafor was attacked when he visited the affected villages.
“Report at our disposal indicated that the attackers maimed, killed and looted the food stuff and livestock before setting the villages blazed.
“The suspected Fulani herdsmen raided four villages in Girei local Government area on Sunday morning around 5:30 am killing scores including the late DPO,” he said.
