The seven governorship aspirants in the forthcoming 2019 general election under the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Zamfara, have called for direct primaries.

The call was made during a joint rally organised by the supporters of the aspirants in Gusau on Sunday.

Already the governor had endorsed his commissioner, Mukhtar Idris, to be the party’s consensus candidate, a decision that did not go down well with other aspirants

In his remarks, Mamuda Shikafi, a former governor of the state and one of the aspirants, said the rally was organised to draw the attention of the party at the national level to the issue of imposition of candidates.

Mr Shinkafi said “We will continue to be loyal to the party and governments of at all levels; however, our only concern is justice and equity to the entire citizens of the state.”

He said what was needed in the state was true democratic process that gives equal opportunity to every party member to participate.

They agreed that one person would finally emerge as the candidate under the platform of the party.

They underscored the need for a transparent that would lead to the choice of an acceptable candidate.
