The Kano State Vigilante Group has confirmed the killing of eight of its members while on duty in 2018.
The state commandant of the Group, Muhammad Alhaji, stated this on Sunday during the inauguration of the group’s new office at Nasarawa Local Government area of the state.
He said the establishment of new office would enhance the operations of the group to the community in checking activities of criminals.
Mr Alhaji said two members were killed in Tsanyawa and Gabasawa local governments, while bandits in Kabo, Nassarawa, and Rano local government areas killed one member each.
“In Tsanyawa, thugs set three vigilante members ablaze in a closed room. Two of them died while the third is currently receiving treatment,” he said.
According to him, “three members were killed by armed robbers in Gabasawa when they engaged them in physical combat”.
He noted that a member called Iliyasu was stabbed to death in Nassarawa in an attempt to arrest some criminals.”
The vigilante commander added that another member was killed in Rano local government in a clash with armed robbers where the vigilante succeeded in killing three armed robbers.
In his remark, the Deputy Imam of Kundila mosque, Abdullahi Muhammad-Getso, appealed to the people to support and collaborate with the group to check activities of criminals in the communities.
