A 9-year-old girl in Yobe State has been raped by seven persons, including her stepfather.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the victim was lured into a house at Babban Tsangaya area of Damaturu belonging to the stepfather identified as Yerima Yakubu, where the Primary 2 pupil was raped many times.
The victim’s mother who divorced Mr Yakubu, a traditional medicine vendor, in June, said her daughter had stopped going to school since the incident happened about two week ago.
Sources at Damaturu Specialist Hospital told DAILY NIGERIAN on the condition of anonymity that three of the suspected rapists have tested HIV positive.
They said the girl at the moment tested negative, but put on drugs for a window period of 28 days, after which they will determine her actual status.
The distraught mother of the child, simply called Hajiya, urged the Yobe State government to intervene in the matter and ensure justice to her daughter.
DAILY NIGERIAN learnt that four of the suspects have been arrested by the police and are being detained at the Criminal Investigation Department of Yobe Police Command, while the remaining three suspects are still at large.
Spokesman for Yobe Police Command, Abdulmalik Abdulhafeez, confirmed the incident, saying four suspects, including the stepfather of the victim, have been arrested.
Mr Abdulhafeez, an assistant superintendent of police, said they would charge them to court at the conclusion of investigation.
