The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has detained a former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau and a former minister of Foreign Affairs, Aminu Wali over N950million campaign funds of the PDP.

In May 2016, the duo was quizzed and detained by the anti-graft agency for allegedly receiving N25m each from the money.

The money was shared among top PDP members at Mr Shekaru’s Mundubawa residence in Kano for the campaign of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.

But sources at the EFCC said the two politicians reported to commission’s office in Kano in company of party supporters on Wednesday.

DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that it took the intervention of the police to disperse the crowd who attempted to force their way into the premises.

Informed sources at the commission said the two PDP stalwarts would be arraigned on Thursday for money laundering charges.

On Tuesday, a statement by Mr Shekarau’s spokesman, Sule Sule, said there no enough evidence to prosecute his principal except that he “recently granted interview to AIT where he scored Buhari administration below average”.

The statement read: “The Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC despite lack of evidence is insisting on prosecuting the former minister of Education Mal Ibrahim Shekarau over the 25 million naira 2015 election logistics allegedly given to him.

“Since 2016, when the issue of election fund came up, Shekarau was invited by the EFCC to explain the amount given to him along with other stakeholders of the party in Kano to prosecute the election but he denied ever receiving such amount and challenged EFCC to produce any one who has given him the money or any evidence to prove that he actually collected the money.

“Based on this, the former minister was asked to go, however, surprisingly, for reason best known to EFCC, we received communication from the agency that the former minister is to be arraigned before a Federal High Court in Kano on Thursday this week over the same alleged 25 million naira election fund.

“Malam Shekarau recently granted interview to AIT where he scored Buhari administration below average.”
