About 52 Almajirees who graduated from Tsangaya Model Primary School, Gantsa in Jigawa State would be admitted into the science, Arabic and other conventional junior secondary schools in the state.
The Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Salisu Zakari, made this known while briefing newsmen on the level of preparation by the board to integrate the Almajirees into formal education.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the initiative was created in 2012 by former President Goodluck Jonathon with a pilot program in the state and some other Northern states.

According to the chairman, 29 out of the 52 graduates have memorized the Holy Qur’an and could write it off hand, while others memorized some part of it and could also read it page to page.
The executive chairman, who spoke through his Director of Tsangaya, Garba Ubandi, added that all of the graduated Almajirees met the requirements needed to be admitted into any junior secondary school.
“We have 6 Tsangaya schools comprising 4 in model one and 2 in Model two and we will have more graduates by next year,” the chairman said.
The chairman stated that the programme had started yielding fruitful results in the state, promising to work more for the expansion of the scheme to all the 27 local government areas of the state.
“We have currently written and forwarded a request to UBEC headquarters for intervention into some little challenges in the program which include renovation and construction of additional classrooms and hostels among others,” he said.
