A Lagos lawmaker, Segun Olulade, on Tuesday expressed confidence that the country would make significant progress and greatness in 2019, with the foundation already laid by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr Olulade, representing Epe Constituency II, at the Lagos State House of Assembly said this in his New Year message in Lagos.
The former Chairman, House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy reiterated his belief in a Nigeria that would survive all odds and become a great nation in the future.

Mr Olulade, also a former Chairman, House Committee on Health Services said that the New Year would be a turning point for the nation in the political space since 1999 democratic era.
The lawmaker said: “2019 marks 20 consistent years of uninterrupted democratic practice which is the longest democratic era in the history of our nation.
“In spite of obvious shortfalls in the democratic process of the nation, there is a great hope that the unity of the nation is guaranteed and better future assured.
“We need to commend the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for its steady achievements and for returning the nation back on the track of integrity and respect among comity of nation.
“This will eventually lead to economic prosperity and fruitful developments for the nation in the long run,” Mr Olulade said.
He said that the restructuring would not truncate democracy in Nigeria.
Mr Olulade, however, appealed to Nigerians to take ownership of the democratic progress recorded by doing everything possible to protect its sustainability.
“Growth is a process; the most developed nations of the world have all passed through their growth stage which is inevitable for any nation.
“Nigeria will obviously survive all challenges and come out stronger,” Mr Olulade added.
The lawmaker urged the youth to be innovative and patriotic to their fatherland as custodians of the nation in the future.
He enjoined everyone to lend hands in nation building to enable the citizens achieve Nigeria of their dreams.
Mr Olulade urged Nigerians to perform their civic duties by participating actively in the 2019 elections, and shun any act of violence capable of undermining and threatening the nation’s hard earned democracy.
He appealed to the masses to continue their quest for just and fair democratic practice, “which is the wheel upon which the pivot of every successful democracy must rotate”.
The lawmaker, who thanked Nigerians for their steadfastness and patience, enjoined Lagosians to take keen interest in politics as the only means for expressing their civic choice at every given political situation.
