Bappari Umar, the Adamawa gubernatorial candidate of the KOWA party, on Wednesday, said that he would prioritise security in his agenda if elected as the state governor.

Mr Umar, who is also the Imam of Jamaatul Nasril Islam, JNI, Friday Mosque in Yola, made this disclosure on Wednesday in an interview with newsmen in Yola.

The Islamic cleric, who expressed concern on the sectarian violence in the southern part of Adamawa, noted that the development had continued to remain a major challenge to peace and development in Adamawa.

“I will give priority attention to security because we need peace to develop our agriculture, education and other sectors that would address poverty,” he said.

Mr Umar, who said that he had begun his campaign in earnest, urged other contestants to campaign on issues saying, “we should put Adamawa first and engage in an issue-based campaign”.

While expressing concern on the no fewer than 200,000 unclaimed voter cards in the state, Umar called for more mobilisation for people to collect their cards.

“I want to call on the people, including my supporters and even those who may not vote for me to go and collect their voter cards for the general elections.

“We must all strive to enrich our democracy by ensuring that we collect our voter cards in order to exercise our voting right during the general elections,” Mr Umar said.
