Banditry: Katsina LG ‘arms’ local vigilantes to support police, Civil Defence Corps

Mashi Local Government Council in Katsina State has armed vigilante groups in the area with working tools to support the police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in enhancing the security in the council.

Abubakar Mashi, the Council’s Director of Education and Social Services, who made this known to newsmen in Mashi on Wednesday, said the items included torch, raincoats, rain boots, socks, canvas shoes, uniform, and walking stick.

Giving a breakdown of items donated, Mr Mashi said that 300 sets of uniforms was provided for the vigilante groups, 100 pair of patrol shoes, socks, raincoat, rain boots, torch, beret and walking sticks.

The director said that the council provided the police with 20 rain coats and torch while the NSCDC got 10 raincoat and a similar number of torch.

According to him, the local government will not relent in ensuring the protection of lives and property of people in the area.

Mr Mashi explained that the items were distributed across the 11 wards of the area and called on the beneficiaries to redouble efforts at securing their communities.

The director said that the local council would continue to support community policing in order to ensure security of lives and properties in the area.
