The Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, on Monday night said the new crescent of Shawwal has been sighted.
He said the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar, will make an official announcement on Monday night.
According to him, the moon was sighted in Damaturu and another town.
The moon sighting brought an end to Ramadan fast, and marks the beginning of the Islamic month of Shawwal and the celebration of Eid-el-fitr.
Saudi Arabia earlier on Monday announced the sighting of the crescent.
According to Arab News report, the Shawwal crescent moon was visible from some parts of the Kingdom on Monday evening, meaning Eid will begin the following day.
On Saturday, authorities had called on all Muslims throughout Saudi Arabia to try and spot the crescent on Monday evening, Ramadan 29, 1440H, corresponding to June 3, 2019.
The UAE, Kuwait, and other Gulf countries will all celebrate Eid on Tuesday, with Ramadan ending on Monday and bringing a close to a month of fasting between sunrise and sunset.
In Indonesia, Pakistan, Australia and other Asian countries, no crescent moon was sighted so Eid will begin on Wednesday.
