The Kano State governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, has written to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, expressing his inability to attend two major durbar events organised during Sallah celebrations.
In the letter, dated June 4 and signed by Ibrahim Hamza, the director of Special Duties, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, the governor said his absence was due the some pressing engagements.
“I am directed to inform you that His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR will not be able to attend this year’s Hawan Daushe due to some pressing official engagements that require his utmost attention. In the same vein, the usual Hawan Nassarawa to the Government house held on the third day of the Sallah is also suspended due to other exigencies.
“While regretting any inconvenience this may have caused the Council, it is hoped that His Royal Highness the Emir will have a successful Sallah celebrations,” the letter read.
The governor and the emir have been at dagger drawn, following the emir’s alleged support for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate, Abba Yusuf, in the last general election.
In order to whittle down the emir’s influence, the governor created four rival emirates in Bichi, Rano, Gaya and Karaye and appointed emirs in each emirate.
Although the governor’s action was stopped by the court, the governor defied the order to issue letters of appointment and present staff of office to the new emirs.
