The Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila has sponsored treatment of a baby, Halima Abubakar, who was born with congenital abnormality at Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camp in Katsina State.
Mr Gbajabiamila also resettled the family in a fully-furnished house, while the mother and father were sponsored to acquire skills for sustainable livelihood.
Recall that the speaker during his courtesy visit to some IDP camps in the state met the sick baby and her parents who were displaced from Wagini village, Batsari LGA, of the state.
Thereafter, he ordered his personal assistant on IDPs, Hamza Baba, to facilitate the movement of the sick baby and her mother to Abuja for treatment.
After the treatment, the speaker directed the aide to find a suitable accommodation within Katsina city to resettle them together with her mother Nafisa Abubakar, her father Mallam Abubakar and other siblings.
“I am happy to report that baby Halima, her mother Nafisa, father Abubakar and other sibling are now happily resettled in a two bedroom well furnished flat in a comfortable location in Katsina,” Mr Baba told DAILY NIGERIAN.
“The Speaker has also provided them with enough foodstuff and clothing and plans are underway to train the mother and father to acquire skills for sustainable livelihood.
“This is in line with the Speaker’s Legislative Agenda and firm belief for sustainable and durable solutions to the plights of IDPs in the country.
“The resettlement process started with a courtesy call to Sarkin Ruman katsina District head of Batsari Alh Muazu Tukur and District head of Wagini Dikko Muazu where baby Halima and parents hail from.
“We later met State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, officials Katsina and officials of Batsari LGA led by the wife of the chairman Hajia Ummah.
“We thereafter met with the family and community members of baby Halima and mother Nafisa and together decided on the best way to go about the resettlement.”
