The Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, has offered free medical services to five thousand people in Kano State, as part of the activities marking its National Executive Council meeting in the state.
Speaking at the flag-off of the programme, held at General Hospital, Gwarzo Local Government area of the state on Monday, the National President of the association, Francis Faduyile said the services are part of their contribution to humanity.
According to him, the free medical services, which he described as Medical Mission, would be rendered to residents in Hotoro town as well as Gwarzo local government area in the state.
The president stated that the association placed greater priority on healthcare, adding that healthcare issues would also dominate discussions in the association’s NEC meeting.
Mr Faduyile commended Governor Abdullahi Ganduje for his commitment to healthcare development in the state.
The NMA president, however, urged the governor to employ more medical personnel, saying that doing so would make the state meet the World Health Organization, WHO, provision.

In his remarks, the state chapter chairman of the NMA, Sanusi Bala, explained that the medical outreach would cover over 2,500 people in Hotoro and Gwarzo.
According to him, some people would receive medical consultation while others would have free surgeries.
Mr Bala added that 100 people with eye problems would receive free medication and surgeries, hoping that many of them would regain their sight afterwards.
“This is the first time this meeting is holding in Kano. As part of the meeting, we always offer free medical services to the host state.
“This time around, we have chosen one metropolitan local government and one real local government for the programme,” he said.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that the week-long event would feature series of activities, including the medical outreach on general surgeries, eye clinic and checkup, dental checking, among others.
