Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has said that the Bade Fishing and Cultural Festival is capable of fostering peace, tolerance and harmony among diverse communities in the state.
The governor stated this during the 38th edition of the Festival at Alkamaram Riverside in the historical city of Gogaram where hundreds of people, including tourists gather for the event.
According to him, the unprecedented turnout of people at the event, despite a break in holding the festival for 16 years, has clearly demonstrated the significance of culture in connecting individuals with diverse interest.
“Today’s event is really significant because it connects and brings people together in the fullest expression of cultural splendor and art forms.
“The Bade Cultural and Fishing Festival is a glorious art form that not only brings people together but helps raise the profile of our state as a tourism destination. It is a culture we are so very proud of.” Mr Buni added.
Senate President Ahmed Lawan, who was also at the occasion, stated that the festival is capable of developing Nigeria’s tourism potentials, in addition to creating employment and wealth for citizens of the state.
“We want to ensure that we partner and not limit the annual event to our state only.
“Next year, we hope to explore the possibility of partnering with federal agencies, corporate bodies and individuals who have the desire and drive to support us,” Mr Lawan said.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Barma Shettima said the reactivation of the festival has clearly demonstrated Governor Buni’s passion and willingness towards reviving cultural activities in the state.
