The congress members of the Alumni Association of Kano University of Science and Technology, Wudil, have passed a vote of no confidence on the President of the association, Dr Auwal Yusif-Abdullahi, over alleged incompetence and self-aggrandisement.

The impeachment notice was contained in a statement co-signed on Sunday by the Congress Committee Chairman, Abdullahi Ammani and his Secretary, Muhammad Inuwa.

According to the statement, about 303 people out of 378 members that attended the congress’ meeting voted against the President, thereby forming the basis for its resolution at the emergency congress meeting held on February 29.

“As a result, the congress resolved that he has been impeached following his inability to resign in due time given to him as in the request letter he received dated Friday, 6th, March. 2020,” the statement noted.

The congress, therefore, directed the Vice-President of the association, Suhail Maccido, to take over from the President with immediate effect to complete his residual tenure.

The congress, however, acknowledged that the President could challenge its decision in court, in the event he finds some dissatisfaction with this resolution.

“The congress regretfully apologizes for all the inconveniences that this tough decision might have caused to him.

“It finds the action necessary considering the chronology of events postulated to cause more harm than good,” the stamen noted.

The statement reads in part: “The congress find it necessary to rescue of the association’s value and restore its aim and objective as stated in article (2) subsection (a & b) which he deliberately ignored, thus a proof of his gross incompetency.

“The congress noted with dismay that his incompetency is not surprising as the evidence gathered revealed that his election into the office of the President of Alumni by a less than 90 votes (<0.01% of the alumni members) does not only typify underrepresentation or seems surprising but it contemplated the violation of eligibility criteria of Article 3 subsection (3.1) in which collection of certificate is necessary and Article 7 subsection (7.3 b &c) after the congress found that his name appears only once on the Association attendance register.

“The congress has noted that he have betrayed the trust and confidence reposed on him by using the association as a vehicle of self-aggrandizement.

“The congress noted his insensitivity for apportioning himself too much responsibility beyond the reach of the law by meddling into conflicts between the major arms of the varsity as indicated in the various copies of the letter he submitted to various authorities including media which typify the violation of article 2 subsection (a & b) in which unity, peace, and understanding among various segment of the varsity and the alumni association itself constitute the framework within which the association shall operate.

“The congress further gathered that most of the press release and other insensitive decisions taken by him was not only without the consent of his executive members but the members of the Academic development committee whom congress empower with the responsibility of handling every issue related to the internal affairs of the university which is an abuse of article 8 subsection (8.4b) of the association constitution.

“The congress observed some degree of inexperience and lack of professionalism in the way he handle the association evident in his poor consultations.”
