Nigerian police, in collaboration with other security agencies, have arrested 165 persons and impounded 205 vehicles and tricycles for violating the lockdown imposed to curb the spread of Coronavirus in Kaduna State.
The Police PRO in the state, Mohammad Jalige, made the disclosure in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna.
According to him, the Command will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to enforce and closely monitor compliance of the respective Executive Orders.
Recall that on Monday, the state government had also arraigned an Islamic cleric, Aminu Umar, and four others for conducting a marriage ceremony and holding Friday prayers in defiance of the curfew imposed in the state.
Mr Umar, the Deputy Imam of Shekara Mosque, Malali, Kaduna, and Habibu Garba, Dauda Saidu, Rabiu Ahmad and Yusuf Usman, were arraigned for allegedly violating the law prohibiting religious and other gatherings because of Covid -19 pandemic.
The state Director of Public Prosecution, Mr Bayero Dari, told the court that the accused persons were arrested at Malali Central Mosque, Unguan Shekara, conducting Friday congressional prayers and a wedding.
He said the offense contravened sections 35 and 36 (5) of the Kaduna Penal Code Laws and the 1999 constitution as amended.
