The Kaduna State Government has commenced the construction of a permanent site of the state-owned university, KASU, at Rigachikun in Igabi Local Government Area of the state.
Performing the ground-breaking ceremony on Friday at the site along the Zaria- Rigachikun highway, the state deputy governor, Hadiza Balarabe, said that the present administration was ready to commit resources to the project.
According to her, the project will further inspire and challenge the management of KASU to partner private and public institutions for the development of the institution.
She said: “As part of our own stewardship of KASU we have decided to move its main campus to this vast land in Rigachikun a step forward from the limited space in which its Kaduna campus began.
“I am certain that the possibilities in this new site will further inspire and challenge the management of KASU to partner private and public institutions to fund and locate projects here.
“Schools at every level must deliver learning, disciplined habits of thought and creative capacity to see and solve problems.
“Possession of a certificate is no longer a signifier of the presence of these attributes in the bearer. We must restore the fit.
“We pay tribute to our predecessors who founded this university which has until now functioned from a main campus in Kaduna and the Kafanchan campus.
Mrs Balarabe appealed to development partners and friends in the corporate world to support Kaduna States’ drive to build a “world-class university.”
She said: “We are convinced that tertiary education will continue to play an important role in producing highly skilled human resources.
“This will require investments in facilities and the better faculty, a reimagining of the curriculum and more resources for research,” she concluded.
