The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle has received his first dose of the COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccine in Gusau, the state capital.
The Director General on Media and Public Enlightenment and Communications, Yusuf Idris-Gusau disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
Mr Idris-Gusau, stated that a public enlightenment campaign would commence in Zamfara with immediate effect.
The statement said: “Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle was administered the injection by the state Commissioner of Health, Hon. Yahaya Mohammed Kanoma.
“The Speaker of Zamfara State House Assembly, Hon. Nasiru Maazu Magarya and the state Deputy Chief of Staff Government House, Dr. Bashir Mohammed Maru were among the first to receive the first Jab of AstraZeneca vaccine along with the governor.
“Speaking after receiving the injection, Governor Matawalle urged citizens of the state to accept the Vaccine as physicians have already explained that it doesn’t have any negative effect on human lives.
“He said the Vaccination will ensure total protection from the deadly disease of Covid-19 as globally acknowledged.
“He explained that 27, 960 people of the state are expected to be vaccinated in the first circle of the exercise,” the statement added.
According to Mr Idris-Gusau the Commissioner of Health Mr Kanoma revealed that Zamfara has received 55, 920 doses of the vaccine.
“He explained that the injection is free of charge and that the state government will ensure total compliance with all the Covid-19 Presidential Task Force guidelines in the Vaccination period.
“He added that the Vaccination will be flagged off in all the 14 local government councils and the security formation for effective utilization.” he concluded.
