The village head of Yakila, Ahmad Garba, has emerged the new emir of Kagara after beating at least 10 district heads, who are higher in ranking.
DAILY NIGERIAN learnt that the new emir was a grandson of Emir Ahmadu Attahiru, who died in 1981.
The secretary to the emirate, Abdulkadir Bala, confirmed the appointment to DAILY NIGERIAN on Wednesday.
A former accounts officer at the Ministry of Finance and later Government House, the new emir was recently appointed as the acting chairman, Niger State Board of Internal Revenue.
On March 10, the state government gave permission to interested candidates to write to the king makers to express their interests.
Top among the contenders as Garba Bako, the District Head of Tegina; Aliyu Muhammad, District Head of Kusherki; Idris Aliyu, District Head of Kwangoma and; Muhammad Salihu Tanko, the son of the late Emir and District Head of Kagara town.
Others are Muhammad Tukur, District Head of Uregi and; Tanimu Katunga, District Head of Katunga.
DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that pressure was mounted on the governor to appoint the District head of Kusherki, who was the immediate-past secretary of FCT Judicial Service Commission, but the governor showed preference to his aide.
It is however unclear whether the kingmakers voted in favour of the new emir or the governor vetoed their decision.
