PDP governors donate N100m to Zamfara fire victims, days after APC governors’ N50m donation

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Governors’ Forum on Wednesday, donated N100 million to victims of the recent inferno that razed part of Tudun Wada Market in Gusau, Zamfara.

Amidst governor’s planned defection to APC, the Progressives Governors Forum on Monday sent a high-powered delegation to the governor to commiserate with him and the people of the state over the incident.

The APC governors, led by the forum chairman and Governor of Kebbi State, Atiku Bagudu, comprises the Governor of Yobe State; the chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Mai-Mala Buni and; Governor Muhammad Badaru-Abubakar of Jigawa State, donated N50m to the victims.

But what appears a move to persuade him not to defect to APC, sources told DAILY NIGERIAN that the PDP governors converged on Sokoto on Wednesday and proceeded to Gusau to meet with the Zamfara governor.

The PDP governors forum chairman and governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, also announced the donation of N100million by the forum.

Mr Tambuwal led the governors Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and Darius Ishaku of Taraba on the visit to the Government House Gusau.

He described the inferno as an act of God, saying the visit by the forum was arranged since the incident  took place but that circumstances prevented them from making it then.

While announcing the donation of N100 million to the traders, Mr Tambuwal cautioned politicians against using the fire incident to advance their political interests.

Responding, Gov. Bello Matawalle, thanked the PDP governors for the visit saying it was timely.

The News of Nigeria reports that part of the Tudun Wada market in Gusau, was on Sunday, March 21, gutted by fire with over 60 shops destroyed.
