Police rescue 15-year-old-girl locked up for 10 years by parent in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has rescued a 15-year-old girl named Aisha Jibrin who was locked up in a room by her parent for 10 years.

 The spokesperson of the command, Abdullahi Haruna, made the disclosure in a statement on Monday.

According to him, the victim was rescued at her family house at Darerawa quarters in the Fagge Local Government Area of the state.

He noted that the rescue operation followed a tip-off by some Good Samaritan in the area.

On receipt of the report, the spokesperson said, the state Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko, raised a medical team and detectives to proceed to the scene, rescue the victim and arrest the culprits.

Mr Haruna added that the team swung into action and rescued the victim who was met in a harsh condition.

The victim, he said, was rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital where she was receiving medical attention.

The spokesperson added that the mother of the girl, 35-year-old Rabi Mohammed, had been arrested while the father, Mohammed Jibrin, had fled.

“Efforts are in progress to arrest the father of the victim who is currently at large.

“However, the Commissioner of Police, CP Sama’ila Shu’aibu Dikko, fsi (Nagari-Nakowa) ordered that case be transferred to the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department for discrete investigation,” part of the statement read.
