The operatives of Hisbah in Sokoto State have seized the musical instruments used in the pre-wedding dinner of the daughter of state governor, Aminu Tambuwal.
In an elaborate ceremony, the governor gave the hands of his daughter, Aisha to Mohammed, a son of business mogul, Dahiru Mangal.
Shariah law was implemented in 2000 in Sokoto, culminating in 2001 with the sentencing of Safiya Husseini to death by stoning for adultery. She was later discharged on technical grounds by a higher court.
But the commandant of the Hisbah Commission, Aminu Kasarawa, said they made the seizure because their actions violates the provisions of Shari’ah law.
He said the DJ who performed at the dinner escaped arrest, adding that playing music during the dinner was outside the purview of Islamic law.
The Hisbah boss said the prohibited instruments seized would be destroyed.
Reviewing the achievements of the commission, Mr. Karasawa said in 2016, Hisbah recorded 157 cases of illegal pregnancies involving under age girls and those beyond 18 years.
The underage victims he said were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Human and other Related Offences (NAPTIP) and the rest to the police.

The Sokoto State Hisbah Commission has recorded 157 cases of illegal pregnancies in 2016.
The chairman of the commission, Aminu Karasawa, stated this in Sokoto while reviewing the commission’s achievements in 2016.
Mr. Karasawa said those involved were under aged girls and those beyond 18 years.
He said tbe underage victims had been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Human and other Related Offences (NAPTIP) and the rest to the police.
