Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has withdrawn his senatorial ambition, following his reconciliation with Barau Jibrin, the senator representing Kano North Senatorial District.

Mr Jibrin has been in talks recently with some leaders of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, for possible defection from All Progressives Congress, APC, to their party.

Mr Jibrin had pitched a tent with a former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau-led faction of the APC, immediately after the party’s state congresses were allegedly hijacked by Mr Ganduje.

Mr Ganduje, who had earlier purchased the APC nomination form for the Senate, withdrew from the race on Monday for Mr Jibrin in order stave off the imminent defection plans of the senator.

Inside sources said the duo had held a reconciliatory meeting, facilitated by some top party leaders, and eventually resolved the matter amicably.

As part of the reconciliation, it was gathered that the governor had agreed to withdraw his senatorial ambition for Mr Jibrin.

The Secretary of the APC in the state, Zakari Sarina, when contacted on telephone on Monday, confirmed the development, saying “it is true, the report is true.”
