The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has invited a former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, to a meeting on Wednesday in Abuja, credible sources familiar with the itinerary told DAILY NIGERIAN.

The APC presidential candidate invited Mr Shekarau, who is the Kano Central senatorial candidate of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, to the meeting in order to woo him into the party.

DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Shekarau had already reached a deal with the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, to join the party and lead his campaign in the North West.

A top PDP stalwart in Kano told this newspaper that the party has started deliberations on structure realignment in order to accomodate Mr Shekarau.

According to him, the zonal vice chairman of the PDP, Bello Hayatu Gwarzo, had intimated the top party leaders in the state about Mr Shekarau’s coming and plans to accommodate his associates.

This newspaper reliably learnt that Mr Tinubu’s running-mate, Kashim Shettima, had earlier met with Mr Shekarau on August 8, but sources said “no agreement reached”.

Although insiders said the former governor had already decided to join the PDP, he – as a matter of formality – summoned his political advisory council, the Shura Consultative Assembly, to advise him.

The council is expected to report today and decision would be announced within the week.
