The Northeast Development Commission, NEDC, says it will expand N6.3 billion on the construction of the 32-kilometer Garkida – Damna road project in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa.
NEDC’s Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali said this during the ground-breaking ceremony of the project in Garkida on Monday.
He said the project was informed by the contribution of the benefiting communities in agriculture, especially cash crop production.
The Commission, he said, would deliver all season motorable roads to improve mobility and connectivity of adjoining communities, adding that good roads are catalysts for improved security and agricultural productivity as well as enhance livelihood, social and economic wellbeing of the people.
“The project would be handle by TRIACTA Nigeria Ltd with a completion period of 12 months,” he said.
Mr Alkali said the Commission was constructing Phase 1 of the 22.5km Jere – Bowl road in Borno at the cost of N13.553 billion.
He listed other projects to include the 53km Gombe Abba – Kirfi road in Bauchi State at the cost of N11.697 billion and the 54km Mutai – Ngalda road in Yobe at the coast of N12.99 billion.
According to him, the Commission is working in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing to fund various road projects in the region.
Earlier, NEDC’s Board Chairman, retired Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his support to the Commission.
He said the Commission would continue to execute viable projects towards improving social and economic wellbeing of the people.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by his deputy, Crowther Seth, lauded the initiative, adding the road project would enhance security in the benefiting communities.
He reiterated the state government commitment to support the Commission to enable it to achieve its objectives.
The Commission also inaugurated a Mega secondary school project in Song community, Headquarters of Song Local Government Council of the state.
