A former Senator who represented Kaduna North, Suleiman Hunkuyi, has advised Governor Uba Sani to start rewarding loyalists and executives of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Mr Hunkuyi’s comments are coming on the heels of a protracted rift between Mr Sani and his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Speaking uring the state executive committee meeting of the APC on Sunday in Kaduna, Mr Hunkuyi said the appeal became paramount to avoid losing his supporters to political opponents who are allegedly plotting to work against his re-election bid in 2027.
He urged those around the governor to provide honest counsel and offer prayers for his success.
“This gathering is for selected individuals organised by the party. If you are not even worthy, nobody will invite you here.
These individuals here [party executives] have come together to pledge their allegiance, support, confidence, and loyalty to you.
“We have been told of your achievements in the past year, but we have not been told of the plans for the next three years.
“You are the leader; the journey ahead is bumpy, those who are praying should pay harder, it’s important that your trusted allies tell you the truth.
“In our type of politics, a governor is the leader of the party in any state. If you see otherwise, that means the governor caused it for himself.
“We are all gathered here together with the governor and the government of the APC in Kaduna which you supported and formed.
“Your Excellency, anybody who advised you to abandon your own, tell him to bring his own first.
“Kaduna APC is blessed , we have you, as governor, and Iyan Zazzau as Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“Your excellency, I appeal to you to kindly consider these children of yours; don’t allow yourself to be caught unawares and for them to be used by your opponents. Embrace them dearly, and I assure you, nobody can take them away from you,” Mr Hunkuyi said.
