76 suspects arrested with Russian flag in Kano transferred to Abuja — Police

The Kano State Police Command says it has transferred 76 suspects arrested for flying Russian flags during #EndBadGovernance protest to Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The state’s Police Commissioner, Salman Dogo, disclosed this at a press conference in Kano on Monday on the arrests and recovery made during the protest.

He stated that one of the suspects is a foreigner, who was arrested for sewing the Russian flags.

According to him, the suspects had been transferred to Abuja on the directive of the Inspector General of Police.

He disclosed that they were transferred to the Force Headquarters for “discreet investigation on charges of sedition”.

Mr Dogo added that the command had arrested additional six suspects linked with masterminding the destruction of Kano Printing Press, adding that they are undergoing investigation.

He added that the Command had arrested no fewer than 873 suspects in connection to the protests, adding that large quantity of exhibits had been recovered.

“In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, to all Commands and Formations for ensuring professionalism and provision of Police service that is rule of law compliant, the Kano State Police Command has worked diligently and professionally towards addressing the aftermath of these events, and these efforts resulted in the arrest of eight hundred and seventy-three (873) suspects and recovery of large quantity of exhibits as follows;

“Arrest and prosecution of six hundred (600) suspects for various offences, including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, riot, theft, mischief, and arson.

“Arrest of an additional six (6) suspects linked with masterminding the destruction, setting ablaze and looting of the Kano Printing Press (KPP) are undergoing investigation.

“Arrest and transfer of seventy 76 suspects flying Russian flags, including a foreigner to Force Headquarters, Abuja for discreet investigation on charges of sedition.

“Arrest of forty-one (41) suspects for other major crimes including armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft, etc,” he said.

Mr Dogo pointed out that despite the challenges posed by the protest, “the Command had recorded success in crime prevention, management, and control within the period under review”.
