Umar Audu, a journalist with the DAILY NIGERIAN newspaper, has been shortlisted among the finalists for the 19th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting, WSAIR.
Mr Audu was shortlisted alongside 14 other journalists across different news organisations.
A statement issued by the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism, WSCIJ ,on Friday said the finalists were selected by the 2024 WSAIR judges chaired by Stella Din Jacob, Editor-in-Chief and News Director, TVCNews.
The statement noted that the finalists were selected out of the pool of 219 entries received for the 2024 award.
The full statement reads,”Out of a total of the 219 entries received, 15 journalists have emerged as finalists for the 19th Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting (WSAIR).
“The finalists were selected by the 2024 WSAIR judges, which is this year chaired by Stella Din Jacob, Editor-in-Chief and News Director, TVCNews.
“The winners will be announced at the 19th WSAIR presentation ceremony set for Monday, December 9, from 5pm to 8pm WAT at the AGIP Recital Hall, MUSON Centre, Lagos with Red carpet and refreshments starting at 4pm WAT.
“The award will close the 2024 Amplify In-Depth Media (AIM) Conference and Awards (https://aimca.wscij.org/).
According to the WSCIJ, the shortlisted reporters are “Segun Odunayo, Olukayode Jaiyeola, and Ovadje Eguriase Elliot from Punch Newspapers, Isaac Ojo from SplashFM 105.5 Ibadan, Umar Shehu Audu of Daily Nigerian, Victor Asowata of The Will Newspaper, Funke Fayemi, Voice of Nigeria-VON; Emenike Chukwuemeka, New Telegraph, and Atsahyel Aaron, Trust TV.
“Others are Jemilat Nasiru and Ibrahim Mansur from TheCable, Huraira Lami Sadiq from Daily Trust, Adedoja Salam-Adeniyi of Tvcnewsng, Ann Chukwuka Godwin, Guardian Nigeria, and Daniel Ojukwu with the FIJ Nigeria”.
