Security agents in plain clothes have visited some radio stations Kano, asking journalists for contact number and addresses of the parents of victims of police atrocities during the #EndBadGovernance protest.
On Tuesday, the parents held a press conference in Kano, seeking justice and compensation for their family members.
A journalist who spoke to our reporter on the condition of anonymity said the security agents stormed their stations, asking the reporters who covered the press conference to tell them more about the victims’ families.
“They came to our radio station because we aired a story about the grievances of the parents of those killed by the police during the August 2024 protest.
“They first asked us about the organizers of the press conference and the contact details of the parents who spoke at the press conference,” he said.
During the Tuesday press conference in Kano, Malam Ibrahim, whose son was killed during the protest, urged President Bola Tinubu to establish an independent and impartial panel of inquiry.
“Some of our sons and daughters were not even part of the protest but were killed because of excessive force used by the police. We are ready to provide all the information and evidence,” he said.
The parents further outlined their demands, seeking justice for their loved ones as well as payment of adequate compensation.
The parents vowed to continue seeking justice, emphasising that the loss of their loved ones could not be ignored.
