A pro-democracy group, Nigerian Democratic Front, NDF, has alleged that former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar are teaming up to sabotage the efforts of Northern Nigeria from producing the president in 2027.
DAILY NIGERIAN reports that Messrs Yakubu and Tuggar had reportedly teamed up against Governor Bala Mohammed who seems to be eying for the presidency, especially following his scathing comments against President Bola Tinubu administration.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, NDF national spokesperson, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, asserted that the primary objective of the duo’s unwarranted attacks on Mr Mohammed was to scuttle the chances of the North producing a viable candidate for the 2027 presidential election.
The NDF, therefore, warned that these political figures are not acting in the interest of the Northern region but pursuing pecuniary and selfish ambitions at the expense of their own people.
“These are not men fighting for justice or accountability; they are political mercenaries working hand-in-glove with anti-Northern forces to scuttle the chances of the region and keep the North politically fragmented and unable to challenge the current administration of President Bola Tinubu,” Mr Ezenekwe stated.
According to him, what Messrs Dogara and Tuggar are doing is a calculated and malicious plot to destabilize the North and deny it any chance of political relevance in the next electoral cycle.
He warned the Northerners to disregard what he termed “the malicious antics of these political saboteurs and political desperados bent on destabilizing the region for selfish gains”.
Mr Ezenekwe described the governor as a rare voice of courage in an era marked by widespread hardship, disillusionment, sycophancy and political cowardice; commending him for his courage for standing up against what he termed “the maladministration of the APC”.
“Governor Mohammed may not be perfect—no politician is—but he stands out as a courageous leader who has chosen to align himself with the people rather than with corrupt political elites. His fearless opposition to the maladministration of the APC and his willingness to call out injustice have made him a target of political vultures like Dogara and Tuggar,” he said.
He, however, urged the governor to remain resolute and continue to speak up for the people.
“History will remember Bala Mohammed as a brave and patriotic leader who stood up for his people when it mattered most,” Mr Ezenekwe asserted.
