Gov. Yusuf receives prestigious humanitarian award

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has been awarded “Humanitarian Governor of the Year” by the Authentic News Daily for his dedication to supporting vulnerable and marginalized groups in the state.

This is contained in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature on Saturday in Kano.

The award was presented to Mr Yusuf at a ceremony in Kaduna.

Its Managing Editor, Jacob Dickson cited the Governor’s consistent and impactful humanitarian efforts, benefiting thousands, including orphans, widows, and people with disabilities.

Mr Dickson highlighted initiatives such as adopting 96 orphans, empowering women, distributing palliatives, and introducing the AbbaCare health insurance scheme for vulnerable populations, showcasing the administration’s compassionate actions.

The award was accepted on the governor’s behalf by Umar Doguwa, the Commissioner for Water Resources, who led a delegation of senior officials to the event.

Delivering the governor’s message, Mr Doguwa thanked the organisers for recognising the governor’s grassroots-focused governance.

He said, “This award reflects Gov. Yusuf’s vision of an inclusive Kano where no one is left behind.

“The AbbaCare initiative, a flagship program, received special praise for its targeted support to people with disabilities, individuals with sickle cell anemia, and other marginalized groups often overlooked in mainstream healthcare.

“The Governor’s monthly women empowerment scheme was also commended for providing financial assistance and skills training to thousands of women across Kano’s 44 local government areas.”

Mr Yusuf dedicated the award to Kano’s people, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to prioritising social welfare, education, healthcare, and empowerment, especially for the poor and vulnerable.
