Tragedy struck at Gwange area, along Lagos Street in Maiduguri metropolis on Tuesday as a teenager, Nura Mohammed, was crushed to death by a tipper truck.
DAILY NIGERIAN correspondent who arrived the scene shortly, reports that the incident happened around 12pm at a junction opposite the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ House.
Witnesses revealed that the incident occurred when the 13-year-old Nura, who was riding a bicycle, attempted crossing over to other lane of the road.
“As he attempted to cross over the lane, he was hit by the high-speeding truck, killing him on the spot,” said a witness, Mustapha Modu.
It was further gathered that the tragedy angered passers-by, compelling driver of the vehicle to leave on the road and flee for fear of retaliation.
The driver was however trailed to the nearby Gwange police outpost, where he sought refuge.
Police patrol vehicle with four personnel later arrived the scene and took the body of the deceased, to the morgue of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, UMTH.
He was however buried around 3pm.
