Muyiwa Peter Awodiya
Muyiwa Peter Awodiya is a professor of Theatre Management and Dramatic Criticism in the Department of Theatre Arts and Mass Communication, University of Benin, Benin City. He has for many years provided the tone and tempo of arts management and cultural scholarship at the University of Benin, and in most parts of the country. He is a colossus in arts management and cultural scholarship.
Born to the families of Chief James Esan Awodiya the late Odole of llesa in Osun State on August 14, 1947, the theatre icon turns 70 in August 2017. Educated mainly at the University of Ibadan and Georgia, U.S., he is a distinct scholar of several rare achievements. He is one of the pioneering staff of the Department of Theatre Arts and Mass Communication, University of Benin. He is also the first African to be appointed as the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of MUSON Centre, Lagos. He is an experienced university administrator, member of several academic professional bodies and one, whose scholarship has impacted on global trends in ethnic studies with a humanist bent.
It is for this reason and more that a book in his honour, Cultural Rejuvenation, Theatre Management and Performance Aesthetics: A Festschrift in Honour of Prof M. P. Awodiya @70 is proposed for public presentation during his 70th birthday celebration coming up in August 2017.
