The Nigeria Triathlon Union (NTU) at the weekend awarded certificates to 62 students who successfully completed training at the ExxonMobil Triathlon Holiday Clinic held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.
The three-day clinic which had over 120 participants in attendance, were later reduced to 62 to afford the organisers have true appraisal of the participants’ performances.
Technical Director of the Nigeria Triathlon Union, Yinka Badare, said the participants were taking through the basic rudiments of the multi-sport, which involves, swimming, biking and running.
Badare said some participants excelled at other variation of the sports like aquathlon, which involves (swimming and running), and duathlon. He assured that the outstanding participants at the event would be nurtured to become stars in the sport.
“What we have done is to identify talents with the clinic, which had students in attendance. The NTU will ensure that talents discovered will not fade but developed to become top stars. It also means that training the athlete would now assist the association have enough avenue to pick athletes,” he said.
President of NTU, Lanre Glover, thank the participants for showing interest in the sport, assuring that more of such clinic would be organised to help the students in future. He also praised ExxonMobil for their kind gesture and called on other corporate entities to emulate the oil firm.
Oge Udeagha, who is the Manager, Media and Communication, ExxonMobil enjoined the participants to make the best use of the skills acquired at the clinic, assuring the NTU of the continuous support of his outfit.
The schools that participated in the clinic include Surulere Girls Junior Secondary School, United Christian Junior and Senior Secondary School, Jibowu Junior High School, Eric Moore Senior High School, Ansar Ud Deen Senior High School.
Others are Eletu Odibo Senior High School, Government Junior College, Eric Moore, Ajigbeda Girls Junior High School, Stadium Senior High School, Apapa High School, St Bernadette School, Ipaja, Ideal Girls Junior High School and Herbert Macaulay Girls Senior High School.
