As part of its commitment to teaching children the game of Chess at the formative stage of their lives, Wriggs and Jiggs in conjunction with Just Chess Ventures, the Nigeria Chess Federation and the Chess Players Association of Nigeria will hold a training session for kids at a remand home in Oregun, Lagos in celebration of the Children’s Day fiesta on May 27.
According to the organisers, the purpose of programme is to give the kids a foundation of vision, patience, planning, thinking before taking actions. The kids will watch other children playing, and learn how to play the game, they said.
The Chess stakeholders holding training sessions consistently at the would help to change the perception of the children to life and guide them to grow up to become better citizens by the choices they make in their careers.
Meanwhile, Ms. Ayokanmi Abayomi Ajayi has been unanimously endorsed as the new President of the Chess Players Association of Nigeria (CPAN). The endorsement came after the recent CPAN/Chevron tournament, which ended at the weekend.
Speaking on her new position, Ms. Ajayi stated promised to elevate chess to a leading position a in the sports sector. Ms. Ajayi will lead the Chess players for the next two years, with Mr. Fasinu Tolulope as the new Secretary General and Mr. Oyeleye Olawale as the new Public Relations Officer.
The CPAN chess championship is an annual general meeting for Chess players to compete among themselves, induct new comers in to the fold and also elect new officers.
