Mr Durbunde’s release followed payment of N6m ransom, high-level negotiation involving the North West caucus of the House of Representatives and security agents.

Narrating his ordeal to DAILY NIGERIAN, the lawmaker said after his vehicle was stopped around Rijana area of the Abuja-Jere road, he was ordered out of the vehicle and beaten to a pulp.

He said the kidnappers, who were 14 in number, were brandishing AK47 riffles and machetes.

According to him, they began trekking in the bush from 8pm on Tuesday and never stopped until around 3am on Wednesday.

“We arrived at their hamlet around 3pm. It was a harrowing experience. I was beaten. My legs were aching and I was hungry,” he said.

Mr Durbunde said the kidnappers were unaware that he is a member of the House of Representatives as they left all his documents and other personal effects in his car.

He said after the ransom was negotiated and was freed, he was led for another 5-hour trek from the kidnappers den to a village close to the point of his abduction.
