The head of Hisbah in Kano, Aminu Daurawa, has broken his silence one week after an elaborate wedding ceremony of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s daughter, Fatima, in the state.
In a lavish ceremony and display of wealth, Mr Ganduje gave the hand of his daughter, Fatima, in marriage to Idris Ajimobi, the son of Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi on March 3 in Kano.
The ceremony, which was attended by President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Bukola Saraki, governors and APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu, has drawn widespread criticisms for its elaborate nature.
The state Shariah police, Hisbah, which bans open entertainment, mingling between men and women and use of musical instruments during marriage ceremonies in the state, was severely criticised for allowing Mr Ganduje daughter’s events to hold without disruption.
But after about a week’s silence, Mr Daurawa speaks on the matter on his Facebook page, listing the places he had been to last week to buttress a point that he was out of town when the governor’s daughter’s events took place.
“On Saturday [March 3] I left for Sokoto around 1pm shortly after the wedding Fatiha for the review of Dr Mansur’s book on Iziyya commentaries.
“After spending two days in Sokoto, I proceeded to Zamfara to preach. I spent a day there, and then travelled to Kaduna for a two-hour DITV programme.
“On Friday, I preached for women in Rigasa and later delivered Friday prayer sermon.
“After Maghrib prayer, I preached at Shaik Rabiu Daura mosque.
“On Saturday morning, I hold (another) preaching session for women at Sultan Bello Mosque, and from there I returned to Kano. To those who want to see me, I am back in my office.
“Everybody want to hear my comment on the marriage ceremony of the governor’s daughter; now what do you want me to say?” the Islamic cleric asked.
