A former governor of Borno State, Ali Sheriff, has been selected as the new chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to replace Uche Secondus who served in acting capacity.
Mr. Secondus took over, following the resignation of the substantive chairman, Ahmadu Muazu, who resigned last year.
Spokesperson of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, who addressed reporters at the Wadata plaza secretariat of the PDP in Abuja, said all the organs of the party, including, the national caucus, PDP governors forum and the national assembly caucuses have agreed on the choice of the former governor popularly called SAS.
Mr. Metuh said the choice of the organs would be forwarded to the Board of Trustees and subsequently, the National Executive Committee, NEC, for ratification before a formal announcement would be made.
